Library
Legacy Fund and other Sustainable Funding Sources
In
2006 the FOL board established the Library Legacy Fund to help fund
children's services, collection development and techology support
in perpetuity. This Endowment Fund complements the group's other
currently established revenue sources.
Waldo
Memorial Fund
Established in May 2000 when Bill and Carol Waldo donated a generous
sum in memory of their children, Marjorie Delores Waldo and Daniel
Alex Audette. Each year revenues from the "Waldo Memorial
Fund" provide funding for special children's programs and
services.
Internet
Fund
In February 2002 another generous donation from the non-profit
Haines SEAKnet (Southeast Alaska Network) board was received.
When their group disbanded, all their remaining funds were transferred
to the Friends of the Haines Borough Public Library with the intent
that the monies be used to support Internet access at the public
library. Each year the FOL is able to give dollars from this Internet
Fund to help defray the rising costs of bandwidth.
Donations are welcome. If you would like to make a donation in
memory of a loved one, as part of your estate planning or just
because you love the library, please feel free to e-mail
us.
Lighting
of the Library
An annual fundraising event, the "Lighting" continues
to be a popular community gathering. Each year on the Friday after
Thanksgiving the library opens for this special event that includes
entertainment, food, an auction, and an dazzling display that transforms
the library into a spectacle of light, decoration and beauty that
reflects the diversity and community collaboration in Haines.
Adopt-A-Plot
The "Adopt-A-Plot" program continues to offer those library
supporters with a "green thumb" to maintain and make beautiful
the out side of the library during the summer months. Last year
over 15 groups and individuals adopted an area of the gardens to
keep weeded and maintained. There are more sections available, so
if you or your organization would like to become involved call 766-2545
for more information.
