The Summer Reading Program begins on Friday, May 25, 2012. Come by the kickoff party to learn about the program and to start participating. 

The last After School program for the school year will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 3:30 pm.

Strengthening Community through Civic Dialogue

HAINES- On Monday, April 2, 2012, the Haines Borough Public Library will continue their Community Matters forums with guest lecturer, A.W. “Bill” Hall from the University of Alaska Cooperative Extension. Hall will share his experiences in creating process for dialogue at the local level and engage participants in a demonstration dialogue. The event will start at 6:30 p.m.

The demonstration dialogue is meant to talk about the process of communication and to give participants a chance to practice those skills of dialogue.  

W. “Bill” Hall is a lifelong Alaskan from Cordova where he fished salmon for over 30 years. He has worked for the Alaska Legislature, the Alaska Commercial Fishing and Agriculture Bank, and presently, the UAF Cooperative Extension Service as an Engagement and Outreach Coordinator.

For the past 6 years he has served on the board of Alaska Common Ground as the lead on a project funded by the Kettering Foundation to create Centers for Civic Life in communities across the state. His work is now focused on helping community libraries to form programs in civic dialogue by providing organizational and training assistance.

This event follows Community Matters forums from last year and is made possible in part through an Institute of Museum and Library Services Enhancement Grant, a collaboration of the Chilkoot Indian Association and the Haines Borough Public Library.
